Patients can now get a Balloon Sinuplasty (a non-invasive procedure) and other traditional sinus surgeries done right in the office.  Dr. Nalbone has learned that it is a better overall experience for patients to have most procedures done in the office rather than in a hospital.  In this fashion, patients don’t need to have general anesthesia with its risks and the associated multiple days of recovery.  The use of certain medications like Valium allow patients to undergo these procedures safely and in comfort and recover in one day.  This avoids expensive and time consuming pre-operative blood tests, EKGs, chest x-rays, clearance from primary doctors or cardiologists, fasting, etc. These tests, while necessary and justified for patients undergoing general anesthesia, are not necessary if general anesthesia can be avoided. It’s also more economical for patients, as procedures done in the office incur no hospital and no anesthesia charges.
